Historia

Apüshi in Wayuunaiki (the language of the Wayuu, the indigenous people of northern Colombia) is education for life, within a family. In its deepest meaning, diversity, respect, justice and unity are essential pillars of a prosperous community.

In Colombia, 7% of the population has a disability. 62% of this population is excluded socially and occupationally. And 49% has no access to proper education.

Apüshi Foundation was created in 1990 with the purpose of providing opportunities for the education and development of children and young adults with disabilities, and beyond diagnostics, we offer them a significant path of growth. Through concrete activities, planned with a functional and practical sense, supported by therapists and teachers, the students in Apüshi feel heard and worthy participants of a community.

In December 2022, we must leave the place where we have worked for over 32 years. In order to continue without interruptions in January 2023, we must build in a new campus four workshops for woodwork, weaving, ceramics and cooking, as well as six classrooms.

Today, with 32 years of experience and social inclusion, having benefitted more than 450 families, we need help to continue with our purpose and to make this difficult situation in an opportunity to become stronger. We are convinced that missions such as this one are the ones that build truly just, inclusive and peaceful societies. Help us!
