Background This initiative has been set up primarily to support Providence Island people, specifically children and schools that have been hardly hit by Hurricane IOTA in November last year.

IOTA hurricane destroyed 98% of Providence island infrastructure, leaving thousands of families without a roof over their heads and schools with serious damages to their structures or completely destroyed.

There are only 3 primary and secondary schools in Providence and St. Ketleena, and around 1000 students that have had to relocate to the sister island San Andres or moved to mainland Colombia to carry on with their studies. 

Enjeux Cette initiative est née de la volonté de tendre une main à la population de Providence, et plus précisément aux organisations éducatives, durement touchées après le passage de l'ouragan Iota en novembre de l'année dernière.

L'ouragan Iota a détruit 98% des infrastructures de l'île de Providence, laissant des milliers de familles sans abri et d'enfants sur les îles avec des structures éducatives gravement affaiblies ou inexistantes.

Providence et Santa Catalina comptent 3 établissements d'enseignement primaire et secondaire et une population d'un peu moins de 1000 élèves, dont beaucoup ont dû quitter leur domicile pour s'installer sur l'île voisine de San Andrés ou à l'intérieur du territoire colombien. 

Objectives Raise € 5000 (22,000,000 colombian pesos) to provide a range of different educational materials to allow the children to go back to school in better conditions. 

The situation evolves as reconstruction takes shape, making the identification of needs in the school environment complex.

In order for our help to be the most assertive and effective, we will define and communicate specifically in what the money will be spent on as the collection progresses and depending on the evolution of the reconstruction: furniture, notebooks, fans, activities for children, educational material adapted to the island culture in order to provide a playroom / library once the schools are rebuilt.

Objectifs Collecter 5000 € (22.000.000 pesos colombiens) qui serviront à acheter du matériel pédagogique et des dotations permettant aux enfants de revenir à l’école dans des conditions correctes. 

La situation évolue au fur et à mesure que la reconstruction prend forme, rendant complexe l'identification des besoins en milieu scolaire.

Afin que notre aide soit la plus assertive et la plus efficace, nous définirons et communiquerons précisément en quoi l'argent sera dépensé au fur et à mesure de l'avancement de la collecte et en fonction de l'évolution de la reconstruction : mobilier, cahiers, ventilateurs, activités pour enfants, pédagogiques matériel adapté à la culture insulaire afin de fournir une salle de jeux / bibliothèque une fois les écoles reconstruites. 

Who are we? We are four islanders (Adile, Silvana, Jenny and Stephanie), born and raised in San Andres Island, currently living in different European countries, and willing to help our sister islands Providence and St Ketleena through resources raised with this campaign to guarantee the continuation of the children’s education.

We hope to appeal to your generosity to reach our goal to support these children that have lost it all and need our support urgently.

Qui sommes-nous? Quatre insulaires, Adile, Silvana, Jenny et Stéphanie, résidant dans différents pays européens, désireuses de contribuer à la reconstruction de nos îles à travers une aide à destination de la population scolaire.

Nous espérons toucher le cœur de nos connaissances, amis et famille ici en Europe grâce à cette campagne et avoir un impact positif sur les enfants de nos îles. 

Our Associate foundation in the islands This initiative Piknini bak tu skuul  will be supported by “Piknini Foundation” our partner in the island which have been working on the ground for more than 7 years, supporting educational, diversity and cultural projects in benefit of the children of the archipelago of San Andres, Providence and St Ketleena.

Piknini founders were born in Providence Island and have a wide knowledge of the needs of these children and have a genuine interest in supporting projects directed to education and preservation of the islands language and culture.

Current Situation Six months following hurricane IOTA, children are receiving classes in tents, and are still waiting for schools to be rebuilt.

Situation actuelle Après 6 mois du passage de l'ouragan, les enfants reçoivent leurs cours dans des tentes de fortune en attendant la reconstruction des écoles.
